1 cup butter (2 sticks)
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup granulated sugar (7 ounces)
1 cup powdered sugar (4 ounces)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
4 cups flour (20 ounces)
1 teaspoon salt
Cream together oil, butter, and sugars. Add vanilla and eggs. Mix in the rest of the ingredients.
Take 1 teaspoon of dough and roll in a ball, then press down with a sugared glass bottom. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes, keeping a close eye on them to prevent burning.
